Many hospitals offer financial assistance programs, also called charity care, to help reduce or eliminate your medical bills. They provide these programs in exchange for nonprofit tax status.

You may qualify if your income is under 600% of the federal poverty guidelines. This means a family of four making less than $198,000 a year may qualify for discounted care (based on 2026 guidelines).
